Converting Percentages to Decimals - Tutorial 1

In the previous Tutorial - 'Converting Percentages to Fractions', you learned the first part that is needed here. If you did not do the previous Tutorial, go back and make sure that you know how to convert percentages to fractions. Click here to go there.

Converting a percentage to a decimal involves two Steps.

Step 1

Convert the percentage into a fraction.

To convert any percentage into a fraction, simply put the percentage over 100.

E.g.

Percentage Fraction
25% 25-100.gif (1053 bytes)
63% 63-100.gif (1058 bytes)
75% 75-100.gif (1044 bytes)

Step 2

Now turn the fraction into a decimal. Do this by dividing the top number by the bottom number.

E.g.

     25-100.gif (1053 bytes) => 25 ÷100 = 0.25        so     25% => 0.25

     63-100.gif (1058 bytes) => 63 ÷ 100 = 0.63       so     63% => 0.63

     75-100.gif (1044 bytes) => 75 ÷ 100 = 0.75       so     75% => 0.75
