Mean, Median and Mode - Introduction

Using the mean, median and mode are really useful ways of comparing sets of data. Working out the mean, median and mode are often used when comparing:

  • class exam results;
  • sales of things, e.g. CDs, cars, stereos, etc;
  • sizes of people (for example if you needed to order uniforms, knowing the mean, median and mode will help you decide how many of each size to order);
  • interests of people for market research.

We will look at each in turn and then look at some questions at the end to practise using them together.
