Reading Scales - Tutorial 3

This tutorial looks at reading a weighing machine scale, like those used in a kitchen.

The picture shows a Weighing Machine scale. As you can see, the large markers measure every 100, the medium markers measure every 50 and the small markers measure 10s.

The table below shows the results for the settings. Study this table and make sure that you understand how the readings are done.

Setting To Nearest 10 To Nearest 50 To Nearest 100
A 50 50 100
(remember to round up
if half way)
B 70 50 100
C 210 200 200
D 290
(this one is not quite half way between 290 and 300, so round down)
300 300
E 350 350 350

Remember if the marker is exactly half way, then you round up.
