Outdoor Learning Training Courses 2008-9

Free to Northumberland PVI settings and Schools in the Foundation Stage SLA

These full day courses aim to build the confidence and skills of practitioners to work with 3-5 year olds in a range of outdoor locations . You may select individual days or attend all 4 days and work towards a Northumberland Outdoor Leader award.

To provide a positive and inspirational experience of learning outdoors at a personal level.

To provide examples of high quality outdoor learning experiences for young children in a woodland location.

To broaden expectations, challenge beliefs and address concerns

Day 2.

Playground

1. Allendale First School

2. Tweedmouth West First School

3.Cramlington St Paul's First School

To provide examples of high quality outdoor learning experiences for young children in a playground location.

To plan, carry out and review an activity with a small group of children.

 To plan an activity to carry out at own setting.

Day 3.

Coast

1. St Mary's Island, Seaton Sluice

2. Craster, near Alnwick

3. Newbiggin by the Sea

To provide an example of high quality outdoor learning experiences for young children in a coastal location.

To provide examples of activities specific to beach work.

To consider health and safety issues related to coastal activities.


Day 4.

Urban Landscape

1. Prudhoe Children's Centre

2. Berwick Children's Centre

3. Blyth Children's Centre

To expel myths and address risk management when using an urban location.

To provide an example of high quality outdoor learning experiences for young children in an urban location.

To review quality of outdoor  learning opportunities in participants own setting and plan for future development.

To review participants learning and development over the whole course.

To support practitioners in action planning for writing an outdoor learning policy.
