Social and
Emotional Aspects of Learning Introduction Except where
otherwise identified, these resources have been developed within
Northumberland and have been well used by a number of our schools to
support the planning and implementation of the DfES SEAL curriculum
resource as part of the Behaviour & Attendance strand of the Primary
Strategy. We would like to thank all of you for your continued enthusiasm towards both the SEAL resource and the ethos it helps you to create in your school. There is some fantastic work to be seen in our schools. The schools that have established SEAL as a key to promoting positive change, know only too well the impact that it is having in whole school processes and consistency. SEAL is an increasingly important element in PSHE and Citizenship, Emotional Literacy and in some schools SEAL is a significant change agent for curriculum review and the basis for behaviour, anti-bullying and well-being policies. Using SEAL as a starting point for whole school development contributes significantly to broader agendas such as Every Child Matters and the National Healthy School Programme as well as the potential to mesh neatly with other ongoing growth areas such as parenting programmes and mental health. SEAL in Northumberland LA is currently located within Strategies, Behaviour Support and Inclusion and as SEAL has links with other significant developments in the County, provides an ideal opportunity for increased consistency in central strategy development. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do and please let us know how we can help you further. Sandi Rickerby Head
