Course Title:  Pirates Online

Curriculum / Subject Area: Literacy/Cross curricular
School Phase: Primary/Years 1- 4

Following the success of the Pirates Online project which ran twice last year, in the Spring Term and then again in the Summer Term, we are offering  the project again so that schools can take part with a different class or for schools who knew about it but couldn’t fit it into their planning.
The aim of the project is to make use of the exciting and highly entertaining Shoofly poetry collection entitled ‘The Pirate's Chest and Other Body Parts’, which can be accessed through Nortle. Some schools may wish to take this further and base a half terms work around this creative and cross curricular recourse.

Anne Curtis, the director and creative genius behind Shoofly, has provided us with the scripts for the sessions and our team will run 6 online sessions for schools. Schools access the online sessions using Learn Online and each will be around 20 minutes long. The online session commences with an introduction, responding to pupils and teachers and sharing pupils work .Then there is a video clip from the fearsome Bonnie Annie and finally tasks are set to be completed before the next session.

Aimed at Key Stage 1 and lower Key Stage 2, each session covers a range of different writing styles and is supported by additional activity materials for each week.

To get a better idea of what is involved all the resources can be found on our teaching and learning website;

A training session will be offered at Hepscott at 4.00 pm on Tuesday 9th September to show colleagues how to use Learn Online and how to access the resources from Nortle. Please sign up for this as soon as possible so that your Nortle account can be set up and your Learn Online user name and password. You will need to give your class a pirate name!
