textures and layers
textile artist helen law working with year 8 students at wensleydale middle school

a year 8 art class spent one afternoon taking photographs in the area around the school collecting images of familiar objects

they looked for colours, textures and strong organic and inorganic shapes

they spent two afternoons learning to use Paintshop Pro software to select and cut out parts of images and then combine them in layers

these processes were the foundation for the work with helen law

helen encouraged the students to experiment with using textiles in layers using translucent material and collage techniques to create colours and textures
