In
this session we used Image>Adjust>Threshold to create black shapes and
then used these shapes to pick up parts of other images and place them
together on a new page.
1.
Create a new page using File>New, setting the size as 640 pixels wide
by 480 pixels high.
2.
Open a colour portrait image and use Image>Adjust>Threshold to create
a high contrast black and white image. Use the slider bars to increase
or decrease the size of the black area.
3.
Use the Magic Wand Tool to select black shapes from the image. Use Shift
click to add areas to the selection and Alt click to remove areas.
4.
Copy the selected areas using Edit>Copy.
5.
Open a second image from the file of background images you have created
and paste the black area onto the image. Move it over an area you wish
to select using the Move Tool.
6.
If it is not already open, open the Layers menu window using Window>Show
Layers.
7.
Be sure to click on the name of the layer with the black image to make
it active. Use the Magic Wand Tool to reselect the black areas and move
the Opacity slider at the top of the Layers Window to 0. The black image
disappears but the outline remains. You can still move this area around.
8. In the Edit menu select Edit>Copy Merged. Whatever was underneath the
selection area will be copied onto that shape. Open the new page you created
and use Edit>Paste to place the shape onto your blank page.
9.
Experiment with the Select>Feather/Modify/Grow options. They can help
when trying to blend one image onto another.
