A family meal

What our tapestry is about :
Our tapestry theme was 'The Body' and 'The Family'
Children from Y2, Y3, and Y4 all participated in its design and making.
There was great interest from boys in 'football' i.e. Newcastle United features in our tapestry.
Our school discos are well attended and proved a popular theme when children's initial designs were drafted.
A family meal featured in many children's ideas and was incorporated into the final design.
Y3 pupils had many interesting ideas about 'The Body' as this directly linked to their science curriculum at the time of planning and designing.
The above aspects were collated in our final tapestry layout using the 'Pit Head' as a logo and central point with themes radiating from it.
Ashington used to be the largest coal mining village/town in England and there are many links to this within our children's families.

How we made our Tapestry:
Knitting, weaving, appliqué, sewing, quilting and basic embroidery feature in the construction of our tapestry.
Every child in Y2, Y3 and Y4 assisted in some way to its construction.

The project was led by our Art coordinator Mrs B. Tennick
