Stakeford First School

We used a variety of techniques including :  appliqué, knitting, weaving with plastic, stump heads, proggy mat work with plastic and felt and we glue gunned shells collected by children onto our beach scene.  Nursery children wound wool to make sheep for our farmland

What our tapestry is about :
Our two themes were 'Holidays' and 'Work'
We included places of work - airport, fishing industry, 'Earth Balance' and farmland and looked at how these are places of interest to visit and spend holidays : beach, airport, Farne Islands and Whitley Bay Lighthouse

How we made our tapestry :
All the children in the school ( Nursery to Year 4) produced designs.  Groups of children from every class were involved in producing the actual tapestry.  The children were helped by their class teachers, two parents and a dinner supervisor.  Parents brought in materials for us to use.  We set up a lunchtime knitting club with the headteacher and school governor ( and the headteacher's mum! ) .  We worked on the project every week and as our deadline got closer we had a lunch time club and a student to help us.  Needless to say the last day of term was very busy right up to 3.15 p.m. !
