Ponteland First School

What our tapestry is about :
Our tapestry shows the 'Festivals' and 'Celebrations' and events held in Ponteland throughout the year.  In school these are balloon race, sports day, termly cake stall, Easter hat/tie parade and the Summer fair.  Within Ponteland these are : Annual wheel barrow race, annual duck race, local mart.
The children put a Christmas tree and eggs around the church to represent Christmas and Easter services.  They  also wanted to put a vicar, bride, groom, Christened child, choir singer beside the church.  Allotments / gardens representing fruit and vegetables grown and the farmer and lambs representing lambing

How we made our Tapestry:
The time scale was approximately 4 months.  Year 1, 2, 3, 4 children drew designs after a briefing.  A selection of children from each class decided upon the design however things were added / adapted as time went on.

Four Year 1 children, four Year 2 children, six Year 3 / 4 children and two parents were involved in creating the tapestry at lunchtimes.  Children from all year groups came to see how the tapestry was getting on on a regulars basis and gave more ideas.
The children enjoyed making the tapestry but were very disappointed that it was not displayed in The Millennium Dome.
