Sequencing the story:

Valuable comprehension exercise
Use 3, 5, or 7 pictures from the story. Children should work in pairs to sequence them appropriately.

Improving sentences
Practice in using adjectives appropriately
Children work in pairs to generate a range of adjectives – words & phrases -  to improve each sentence. From their list they should choose and insert the ‘best’ for each sentence.

Character portraits
Planning and a short paragraph to describe

1. Select an image of one character
2. Generate a range of relevant nouns and adjectives to describe the character
3. Work from this planning to produce a paragraph describing the character
NB ensure the children include adjectives to describe the personality [brave, weak] – we must move on from simple physical description

Storyboarding plan for modern version of the tale:
1. Children should work in pairs to generate possible changes to character or setting
2. U
sing a frame of 3, 5, or 7 sections plan out a modern version of the tale – the plot should remain unchanged, only the characters OR setting should change
