Published Schemes for Literacy
This booklet provides schools with a summary of a range of
newly published materials for literacy teaching from Nursery to Key Stage 2.
Although we have tried to cover a wide range of publishers, the list is not
exhaustive, so please do not read any omissions as exclusions; we had to stop
somewhere! The materials are listed alphabetically according to the publisher
and related information given under specific headings:
Title/Target Group: Describes the material by its common reference and the age group(s) it is aimed at.
Publisher: Name and website address.
Rationale: What the materials are intended to do for schools.
Rating*: Based on a range of criteria including, accessibility, clarity, match to the NLS framework, quality of the materials, planning and teaching support, and how easily they might dovetail into existing resources.
Structure: How the materials are organised for teaching.
Materials: The main components of the materials for pupils and teachers.
Teaching support: The type and level of support provided for teaching.
Comments: A summary of the strengths and potential drawbacks.
Evaluation pack: Whether or not this an option provided by the publisher.
* The rating is little more than a rough guide so we urge schools to consider each resource in relation to their needs, to talk to others who have knowledge of their use and, always, to have sight of the materials before making any commitment
