We have just recently heard from CILT, the National Centre for Languages, that our resources, “Thinking and Learning through Fairytales and Fables” have won a European Award for Languages, which recognises innovation in language learning and teaching.


The project has grown naturally out of the commitment of Northumberland schools to thinking for learning and we are delighted that the judges recognise and endorse the value of this approach in language learning.

The Three Billy Goats Gruff

The traditional story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff is brought to life in an interactive version, set in the wild Cheviot hills of Northumberland and is available in four languages, with an extensive Resource Manual and an A4 printable version of the story.

Little Red Riding Hood

The tale of Little Red Riding Hood is presented as an engaging interactive story read by a native speaker in French, Spanish, German and Italian.
The text is enhanced by an extensive bank of resources and activities collated into a Resource Manual to support language learning and thinking skills strategies. There is also a printable A3 or A4  version to use as a big book.

Three French Fables

Each fable is presented as an interactive story in French, read by a native speaker. The text can be shown or hidden to encourage listening skills.

Le Corbeau et le Renard   has an extensive bank of additional resources to support language learning and the development of Thinking Skills.

Les Souris Courageuses has recently been updated with a modified text and new sound recording.  It is supported with additional resources, including Smart Notebook files with sound and an image bank.  Further activities to follow...
