The Northumberland Teaching and Learning Environment (NorTLE) is a collaborative project between Northumberland LA and our schools. The overall aim is to provide a Teaching and Learning Platform to all schools that can support stated aims within both ‘Harnessing Technology’ and ‘Fulfilling the Potential’ which focus on Raising Standards by embedding ICT and e-learning firmly in the delivery of teaching and learning throughout the curriculum. NorTLE provides for teachers an on-line opportunity to manage their teaching and learning resources in one location. They can collect together Powerpoints, photographs, worksheets etc and organise them for classroom presentation. Opportunities for learning beyond the classroom can be integrated too with home access to information and resources for pupils, where appropriate. NorTLE is a central element of Northumberland's e-learning strategy. |
The Northumberland Teaching and Learning Environment (NorTLE) is development by Durham University Business School. The Northumberland ICT Curriculum Support Team is very proud to have worked closely with the university to broaden the functionality of the platform so that it now excedes the minimum specification outlined by the DfES for schools learning platforms. Newcastle and Gateshead Local Authorities are also providing this learning platform to their schools. This strategic partnership between Durham University, Newcastle and Gateshead and Northumberland Local Authorities is proving be an exciting venture with a strong focus on raising standards through the use of ICT across the curriculum. Prior to involvement, the Local Authority provides an opportunity for Head Teachers to attend a briefing. During this session, a detailed information pack is provided, the wide range of NorTLE's functionality and potential is demonstrated and a discussion is undertaken to indicate how schools can become involved in this initiative. Each school requesting a Learning Platform will be supported as they work through the Implementation process - raising awareness in their own school, preparing their own Implementation Plan and providing staff training and support. One of the exciting aspects and a great strength of the NorTLE initiative is the creation of NorTLE Central - a platform available to all teachers where they can share schemes, plans and resources as well as engage in Discussion Forums to support each other. |
