'Pupil
Tracker'
was designed by us as a method of generating school targets in literacy and
numeracy, based on individual pupil targets. It will track pupils from baseline/nursery
to the end of First School, focusing on targeted achievement at KS1 and at Year
4, and leading to predicted and targeted levels of achievement in KS2 SATs.
It is simple and effective to use, and is currently used in many First and Middle
Schools. A pack containing advice on what to gather, how to use it, and how
to plan for improvement from the data gathered is available from us. 'Pupil
Tracker' was shortlisted for a BECTA award in 2002.
Using
'Pupil Tracker'
Teacher assessments of pupils' targeted and predicted achievements
are the backbone of this system. For each pupil, a targeted and predicted result
are required. Predicted results are based on the child's performance at a given
time: if s/he continues to progress at the same rate (as is shown now), what
level could be expected at the end of the Key stage, or at Year 4? Targeted
results are what the child could achieve if s/he worked to their full potential:
this might involve improving self-confidence, motivation, or effort, or the
conquering of identified stumbling blocks in learning. The target result should
be achievable for the child, and you should know what intervention is required
to help the child achieve the result. Targets and predictions can be reviewed
and updated whenever the school wishes.
