Term Planning
In order
to cater for mixed age classes we have constructed a two year rolling programme
of curriculum delivery that allows flexibility for various thematic approaches.
These are firmly rooted in 'chunked' Programmes of Study (see long term planning)
which are then linked to form cohesive teaching themes, so that science elements,
for example, are enhanced by relevant mathematical/technological teaching.
Teaching for Foundation Stage is linked clearly to Key Stage 1, allowing some
children to progress easily to the National Curriculum within some areas of
the curriculum whilst working towards Early Learning Goals in others.
Medium
Term Planning
In order to ensure progression, continuity and overall coverage, long term themes
are then matched against subject specific medium term planning, using medium
term planning sheets that are quick and easy to complete. Short
term planning is then made flexible enough to allow for different themes to
reflect the curriculum package for each time span, and also provides differentiated
activities for children of varying abilities within each mixed age class.
