KS 2 & 3 Computing Course

Teaching ICT & Computing in Upper KS2 & KS3

Thursday 30th June 2016    Ashington Town Hall

 This course will be led by Jordan Graham, ICT Co-ordinator at Meadowdale Academy and will look at how the school plans for the teaching of Computing in Years 5,6,7 & 8.  The course will also consider the wider use of ICT in the school and how best to support colleagues.

 Strategies for managing and assessing pupil work and the use of School360 and Google Classroom will also be reviewed.

 There will be some opportunities for practical activities alongside sharing ideas, discussion and demonstration of resources and activities used by the school.

 The course will cover:

 KS2 Morning

  • Intro – overview of my curriculum at upper KS2 (5&6)

           Three strands – Digital Literacy, Computing and Information Technology

            Progression Pathways

. Hands on look at:

            Hour of code www.code.org

            Lego We-Do & Scratch

            Crumble

Coffee

  • Google Classroom – use of google classroom for assessment and feedback (digital portfolio)
  • Hands on look at:

            Soundation www.soundation.com (will need headphones)

            Socrative- ipad

            Seesaw – ipad

Lunch (provided)

KS3 Afternoon

  • Intro – overview of my curriculum at lower KS3 (7&8)

            Three strands – Digital Literacy, Computing and Information Technology

            Progression Pathways

  • Hands on look at:

            Codecombat – introduction to python

            Raspberry Pi’s – programming and understanding networks

                                                                                        
            BBC Microbit

  • Computing Enrichment – G&T initiatives
  • Creating video tutorials and VLE (school360 + Google classroom)

Coffee

  • HTML – creating websites (google sites) – using sites as real world scenarios.
  • Managing an ever decreasing budget – using free online tools and where best to spend the 
       money.

Colleagues may book to attend the morning, afternoon or both sessions depending on the phase they teach.
