Inspecting ICT and E-Safety in the Current Curriculum Climate

David Brown—Ofsted National Lead for ICT

David leads Ofsted’s work in ICT, coordinating ICT subject inspections and writing reports and articles for Ofsted. David also leads inspection and improvement work in schools and initial teacher education. Before working for Ofsted David had over 25 years experience teaching in secondary schools, including 20 years as an ICT Coordinator, and worked for 15 years in school senior management.

ICT programmes of study at all key stages have been disapplied since September 2012. ICT will

continue to be a national curriculum subject, renamed computing with a new and statutory

programme of study at all four key stages, from September 2014. Programmes of study for Computing for Key Stages 1-4 were published in September 2013. In his presentation David will explain how

Ofsted will inspect ICT/Computing in all types of schools in the current climate but also from

September 2014. Since September 2012 Ofsted have placed a greater emphasis on the inspection of

e-safety provision within their new inspection framework for schools. The imperative to protect young people online has never been greater, with particular emphasis on vulnerable children. As technology and social media continue to progress apace, David will explain Ofsted’s view of good and outstanding provision in e-safety.
